Vilsack announces Marcy appointment to inspection advisory committee

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – John Marcy, Extension Food Scientist with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Center of Excellence for Poultry Science, has been appointed to the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI), Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced.

The 17-member committee advises the secretary on matters affecting federal and state inspection program activities and contributes to USDA’s regulatory policy development.

Other new members of the NACMPI include Michael Rybolt, Hillshire Brands Company; Carol Lorenzen, University of Missouri; Sherika Harvey, Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, and Christopher Waldrop, Consumer Federation of America.

“Being selected for the National Advisory Committee for Meat and Poultry Inspection is an honor and a validation of my years in industry and in Extension as an educator to the poultry and meat industry,” said Marcy. “I hope to contribute to the process of improving the safety of meat and poultry.”
