FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- The American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE) inducted University of Arkansas food science professor Dr. Terry J. Siebenmorgen as a Fellow of the Society at the ASAE annual meeting July 19 in Tampa.

Siebenmorgen, a leading engineering expert on rice quality, helped establish the U of A Division of Agriculture's Rice Processing Program, which is supported by the major companies in the rice processing industry in the United States. He also helped establish the Division's Institute of Food Science and Engineering.
In addition to his rice quality research and extension programs, Siebenmorgen teaches food process engineering. His work covers a range of rice quality issues from pre-harvest conditions through harvest, drying, milling and storage. He developed the "glass transition hypothesis," which explains the response of a rice kernel to changes in temperature and humidity.

A native of Scranton in Logan County, Siebenmorgen has a bachelor's degree from the U of A, a master's degree from Purdue University and a Ph.D from the University of Nebraska.
