Fitter Natalie Johnson sizes up an outfit for model Lelia Nelson before a "green" themed fashion show for the University Women's Club on Earth Day 2009. Nelson's dress was designed by fellow student Zach Ridenour and was a runway winner in a Fashion Group International-sponsored Career Day competition at the World Trade Center in Dallas.

Senior apparel studies student Jordan Fisher models a wedding dress she designed and made from a recycled 1970s wedding dress during a "green" themed fashion show for the University Women's Club on Earth Day 2009.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Students and faculty in the University of Arkansas apparel studies program organized and ran a "green" themed fashion show for the University Women's Club at the Fayetteville Country Club on Earth Day April 22.
The show, "Sustainable Fashion: Something old, something new, something borrowed, something green," featured clothing made from sustainable and/or recycled fibers, used clothing recycled into contemporary styles and other "green" fabrics, manufacture or processes.
Apparel studies is a major in the School of Human Environmental Studies in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the university.
Some of the featured outfits were designed and made by the students; others were provided by area retailers Dillard's, Talbot's, Town and Country and (for the recycled clothing) Cheap Thrills.
Student fitters and models selected the manufactured clothing, assembled outfits from recycled clothing and even designed some of the garments.
The show also featured style and textile board displays showing historic trends and materials that have evolved into today's green fashions.
