HORSE LOVERS -- Melinda Smith, lower right, and Marci Jennings, center, 2004 Horse Camp volunteer instructors, assist camper Brittney Twilley. Brittney will be returning to camp this year at the intermediate level.
The University of Arkansas' D.E. King Equine Program is sponsoring a “Horse Lover's Day Camp” June 12-16 for youth from 8 to 18. Enrollment closes June 2.
Nancy Jack, director of the UA equine program, said campers will learn about riding and caring for horses of several breeds and types in an entertaining and educational atmosphere in two levels of experience.
No experience is required for Level I. Novice to intermediate campers will spend two days learning about riding, safety and handling, and horse care.
Level II camp (Intermediate or Above) will consist of three days of instruction and daily riding lessons. Campers will be exposed to both English and Western disciplines. Details can be found online at www.myhorsecamp.org.
The camp will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the Pauline Whitaker Arena on North Garland Ave. A limit of 60 campers will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Horse Lovers' Day Camp is a fund-raising activity of the D.E. King Equine Program, a predominantly self-funded program.
